Open House Week – Day 1

Posted by: strathblane | March 9, 2009 | 21 Comments |

Today we will have a visit from Learning Teaching Scotland, Balfron High school and our very own Primary 7s and Primary 2s.  More info to follow.

The day will be focussed on continuing with our poster project and the Primary 7s have the challenge of assessing the team work during this activity.  The special focus will be are all members assigned a role and sticking to this job.  They will also generate their own ideas of what good team work looks like and sounds like before their visit.

See today’s comments for the P7 evaluation.  Daily blog and children’s questions will be posted later today and they will be looking for your advice.

First of all we would like to thank the P7s for their fantastic comments.  These are really helpful to the children and gave each team something to think about for the rest of this task.

Carter and Allen spent some time after school assessing each of the posters. We will get pictures added as soon as possible for you to add your comments.  We were on the whole very pleased with the work that we saw but we have definitely seen some areas that require improvement.  We have chosen to give each team a few key areas to work on tomorrow.  Teams please read this advice and discuss with us, anything that is causing you concern. Thanks for your hard work.

Cleopatra – Cut out each of your figures and use paint/coloured paper to add a background.

Pharaohs 2- Rebuild the face of the Ancient Egyptian child, Cut out all of your characters and think about adding a background.

Heiroglyphics - You have lots of detail on the Scottish child and the same is required for the Egyptian children.  Rebuild your ancient Egyptian child.

Ancient Egyptians - Cut out the Scottish figure.  Rebuild the Egyptian children using books for information. (In an Egyptian City is a good book)

6 Gods of Egypt -Make sure that everything is stuck on really well.  Use the top part of your paper for detailed information about your children.

Curse of the Mummy - Think about the skin colour of your Egyptians.  Glue a background to the Modern Egypt section and replace the Scottish body, thinking about what clothes you wear.

Ra - Excellent work Ra! Now you need to add a title and add some clear text explaining the differences.

Pharaohs 1 - Tidy up the skirt of the Ancient Egyptian, Make the modern Egyptian child as big as the others and add some good quality information.

This mornig I was observing the primary 3/4 group Pharaohs 1. I was very impressed to see the group making sure that everyone was included in their discussion and had a job to do. They also made a team dicission on who would be the leader and eventually came to a disission that Jamie should be the leader becuse he hadn’t been a leader of any group before and so far he has worked brilliantly. I am looking forward to visiting the group again and seeing how Jamie got on as the Team leader.

This morning I was observing the Ancient Egyptians and I thought their art work was terrific and their team work was great too however, I think that they could have been even better if they had listened to one another a little bit more. I thought that the jobs that each group member had was very intresting and mostly everyone handled their job well.
The p3’s and p4’s worked very well together and I am amazed at their knowledge of the Ancient Egypt.

This morning I went up to primary 3/4 classroom and opserved the team Pharaohs 1 and I thought that they worked brillantly as a team and were all co-operating well. They included everyone and had a fabulous time although working hard at the same time. The leader Jamie was chosen because he hadn’t had a chance to show how good he is as a leader. I would like to go up sometime later and see the finished product.
Well done primary 3 and 4!

This morning I was assessing the Ancient Egyptians group. Their artwork was amazing and theywere all interacting really well. Emily was in charge of materials and she was doing a really good job of it. Their attitude to work was very mature. Oliver was the team leader. They worked very well as a group however i think they would have been even better if they listened to each other a little bit more.

I was working with 6 Gods of Egypt and what I saw was great everyone had a brilliant idea and they were really creative. They had a debate on who would be a strong leader and after a while the decided that Jenny would be a strong and encouraging leader. their art work was excellent as they all put their brains together and thought hard about the task. They were really mature about what they were doing and they worked as a great team. Very impressed – well done!

This morning we went to have a visit at P3
and to see how they got on and observing
how they could work as a team. My group was Curse Of The Mummy. They all had different jobs such as Team Leader, Time Keeper and Designers. They were clearly focused and they all worked well as a team.I would like to say well done to my group and to all of P3 and P4.

Jack

I was assessing the group “Hierogyphics” in p4 they were great at working together and i was impressed at the teamwork. Every one was working and having fun at the same time. There was no fighting and one person spoke at a time. I am very impressed and i think they did great.WELL DONE!

Amy

I thought that the Hierodglphics where really astonishing at co operating and they did very well at decideing how to choose a team leader. I also thought all the members in the team enjoyed the topic and they all enjoyed to take part in the group with each other However, they could of made more suggestions to the team but really it was fantastic!.
well done p3 and p4.

This morning I observed great team work with my group Pharaohs 1. The leader of my team was Jamie he did a fantastic job. Within the group they all had a job to do and they did it incredibly well. I absolutly loved the art work that they were doing. Amazingly when I looked around the class room it taught me about Anciant Egypt. I really enjoyed it even though we were there for a very short time. I would really like to see it when it is finished. It was amazing and I was very inpressed well done p3 and p4.

Today I went to the primary 4 class room to work with a group called 6 Gods of Egypt. The group were all communicating and sharing ideas. They were all including each other and I could see a lot of people working hard. I thought that everyone was very mature and they all had a lot of knowledge about Ancient Egypt. They were all very organised therefore they were a great group to work with and I am very glad that I worked with them.
Well done!

This morning I was observing the group called The Curse of The Mummy. Everyone within the group took part and they were all orginsed and had a job to do. I was amazed at the knowlage that they had about Anciant Egypt. I thought they all seemed very mature and worked very well as a group. I was glad to be with a group like that. They all interacted very well with each other. Although I was there for a very short period of time the minute I arrived I could tell that they were a very well mannered group.

I was working with Ra, they worked together really well. The whole group was working well as a team and co-operating. They told us how thet had disagreements when they were first started working together, however it was obvious that they had sorted that out by the time we arrived. The work that they had done so far was great and proved that they must have worked hard to get it done. Everyone within the group took part and shared their ideas with each other. Well done!

This morning I was working with Cleopatra and they were working extremely hard on their artwork. They were a strong team with a strong and enthusiastic leader. They worked very hard together and were listening to each other. However, the time keeper required some help with his role and would have benefited from a little more support. Apart from this small hitch I really thought their groups work was of a very high standard.
Well done.

This morning I was visting p3 and p4 to see how good they work together.I was asigned a group called Hierogphics and they worked well together and they all lisened to each other and they focused on what they were doing. They all had a job to do such as Time keeper, team leader and desingners and I was happy what they did today and I would be happy to see what they are doing next time.

John

I was working with The Curse Of The Mummy,
They were working brillantly in a group
theycame up with lods of amazing ideas for there poster. they used alot of creative things to help there poster look more creative.I think they worked well as a team and the p4s and p3s worked well together.I hope i will be working with that team again.Well done p4 and p3 you worked extreamly well together and hope to work with you again.

earlier today i went up to the p3 classroom to assess their teamwork. i was working with pharohs 2 and they were working very well as a team. they all had their own job to do and they did them without any fuss. while i was there they were painting a picture of a child in modern egypt, scotland and ancient egypt. they were co-operating very well but one person wasn`t letting someone cut out a nose after him drawing it. other than that both the teamwork and the actual work was of a very high standard.

The team I worked with Ra. In their group they tried to put all suggestion together and have a vote. One group member stated that all suggestions would be used and this made everyone fell good about their ideas. They had a vote on who would be the leader. They voted a boy called Calum. He was very encouraging to his fellow team mates. They all had a job to do within their group and they co-operated well with each other and I hope they keep up the good work so well done p3+p4.

I particaly enjoyed my excperience at p3. My personal comment is that my team Pharaohs 2 were a fabulous team. I thought they showed great teamwork and leadership however there was 2 people who were bossy. however there persuation was top class and they got me to help them in that short amount of time. They were excelent at encouraging people to take part in the activitie. So job well done to Pharaohs 2.

Today p7 got put into groups of three and then we were put into groups with p3 and p4 my group was Cleopatra. They worked as a team to produce a peace of art work that was amazing. They shared ideas and they all had lots of fun. I did not see any one left out they were all cooperating with each other. Well done and I hope to see it when its done.

This morning I worked with the cleopatras and I thought they worked extremely well as a group. They all got on really well, and worked as hard as they could to get it finished in time. They all had there own individual jobs and accomplished them with flying colours. I also thought there team skills were excellent. And Lucy was a great enthusiastic team leader.Even though we were only there for a short time I really enjoyed it.

well done!
